kirstynaicounsellor@gmail.com

Member Registered with NZ Association of Counsellors (MNZAC).
Bachelor of Health Science in Counselling, Graduate Diploma of Psychotherapy Studies (from Auckland University of Technology).

I have been working as a Counsellor for over eight years and previously worked in mental health for over 12 years.

I work with children and adults; with children I utilise play, creative interventions, mindfulness and child-friendly CBT skills.

I take a person-centered approach to counselling, working with both child and adult clients to set meaningful goals and collaborate on strategies to achieve them.

I believe that people can live a valued life while accepting setbacks and developing strategies to cope with them. I help people to develop mindfulness skills to improve emotion regulation, as well as find practical solutions to problems. I utilise techniques from various counselling styles.

I am a provider for ACC Sensitive claims (www.findsupport.co.nz) Oranga Tamariki, Victim Support, and Aoake te Ra (a service for those bereaved by suicide www.aoaketera.org.nz).

Registered psychotherapist with the Psychotherapist Board of Aotearoa New Zealand (PBANZ).
Member of the NZ Association of Psychotherapists (MNZAP).
Professional Member of the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Arts Therapy Association (MANZACATA).

I have 18 years of experience, firstly as an art therapist, and in recent years as a psychotherapist. I offer verbal dialogue combined with symbolic language, to help my clients gain awareness, make positive changes in their lives, and move forward.
I welcome clients from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. I provide a safe, trusting, confidential and welcoming environment. Here you can share and explore challenges, difficulties, or whatever comes to mind. This will help you gain a greater awareness about yourself and about your relationships with others, find easier and healthier ways of being and relating. This leads to a sense of growth, fulfilment, and wholeness in your life.
In our first meeting, we will discuss what has brought you to see me. We will talk about your background and history, so I have a deeper understanding of who you are and your needs. Together we will set goals for our work.
I believe that a good match between client and therapist is a key factor to get the most from your therapy. Therefore, the first meeting is also a good opportunity to mutually explore what it might look like to work together.
